PUDUCHERRY: On the occasion of the 142nd birth centenary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2, a six and half feet bronze statue of Gandhiji would be installed at an avenue named after Mahatma Gandhi in Vaureal, 30 km from Paris in France.The statue, sculptured by Sirpi Varadaraj, a craftsman from Thimmakudi village near Swamimalai, has been sent to France from Chennai port.The statue weighs 400 kg and costs Rs 6 lakh. Thamizh Kalachara Mandram, a cultural association of Tamils in France, had placed an order for the statue.
