Baijayant protests omission of Odisha floods

BHUBANESWAR: BJD Lok Sabha member Baijayant Panda protested omission of Odisha in the Lok Sabha’s customary reference to obituaries and major disasters at the start of the winter session.In a letter to Speaker Meira Kumar, Baijayant said, “I am writing to point out that at the customary reference to obituaries and major disasters at the start of the winter session this morning, although there were references to several natural calamities both in India and abroad, there was an important omission”.There was no mention of the severe floods that hit Odisha for several weeks in September and October, causing 83 deaths and affecting more than 2.5 million people in 21 districts, he said.Baijayant has requested the Speaker to make a reference to the floods which hit Odisha at the beginning of the proceedings on Wednesday.
