MADURAI/CUMBUM: An eight-month-old baby died of suspected dengue in Madurai on Thursday, while five others tested positive for the fever in Cumbum.Another two-year-old girl, who tested positive for dengue, is undergoing treatment at the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH), Madurai.According to City Health Officer V Subramanian, Bargana, daughter of Peer Mohamed from Poondhamallee Nagar in Sellur, who died of suspected dengue, was in Tenkasi for 10 days.Since May 21, she was suffering from fever and under treatment in a private clinic for two days.When her condition worsened, she was taken to GRH on May 23. Her blood serums were collected and sent to the Madurai Medical College. Although preliminary tests revealed that Bargana died of dengue, it could be confirmed only after the further reports, the health officer said.Similarly, Ramavardhini (2), daughter of Loganathan of Melaanuppanadi was tested positive for dengue. She was admitted to the GRH with high fever on May 19. Treatment was given to her and she is recovering well, the officer added.About 10 children from Madurai and other districts have been admitted to the GRH. Of them, four have tested positive.In Cumbum, five children tested positive for dengue and are being treated at the Government Hospital.Over 100 patients, admitted to the Cumbum Government Hospital with fever, were tested for dengue. Dinesh (10), Deepa (12), Mohamed Anas (16), Sabarishi (11) in Cumbum municipality area and Muhesh (9) of Karunakkmuthanpatti village in Cumbum panchayat union were tested positive.Dinesh and Deepa are recovering, while the other three are undergoing treatment at the GRH, Madurai.
