Ayesha Takia slams father-in-law Abu Azmi's 'stoning for sex' comment
She was referring to a TV interview Azmi gave in which he said that women - whether they are raped or have consensual sex - must be hanged till death.

New Delhi: Actor Ayesha Takia on Friday took to Twitter to vent her anger against her father-in-law Abu Azmi, a Samajwadi Party leader. "If what I am reading about my father in laws statements are true then me and Farhan are deeply embarrassed n ashamed...(sic)," she wrote on Twitter.

She was referring to a TV interview Azmi gave in which he said that women - whether they are raped or have consensual sex - must be hanged till death.

He also said that sex out of marriage or live-in relationships should be punished by stoning.

"We surely do nottt share this mindset...its disrespectful to women.if these statements r true then its sad (sic)," Ayesha wrote.

Ayesha's husband Farhan Azmi too denounced the statement albeit while defending his father. "Rape should not be mixed with Islam. Such crimes deserve punishment. I am sure my father was misquoted or misinterpreted," he said.
