Avoid overloading in school vehicles

The traffic police in the Union Territory had cautioned drivers and owners of vehicles against overloading them with school children. The police said that the offenders would be booked if found in violation of the guidelines.

The drivers, owners of vehicles, school authorities and the parents had been given instructions at a meeting held by the traffic police, to be followed during transporting students to and from schools. Superintendent of Police (Traffic) N T Sivadasan urged the parents not to allow their children to be sent in vehicles which are overloaded and asked them to keep the contact numbers of the vehicles’ drivers.

The auto-drivers had been strictly told not to carry more than five or six children in their vehicles. They were also asked to follow instructions on the maximum speed limit fixed by the government,  follow parking rules and carry required papers.

Sivadasan requested the schools to engage at least one teacher in each vehicle to ensure that the students travel carefully. He said that the station house officers and sub-inspectors of traffic police stations (north/south/rural) had been instructed to ensure compliance with instructions on daily basis.
