Former union minister alleges party has secret deal with SP, claims leaders of both groups do shadow fighting.

New Delhi: Former union minister Arif Mohammad Khan on Saturday announced he had quit the BJP to protest against the party giving election tickets to "tainted" leaders in UP.

"I had sent my resignation through a letter to BJP President Rajnath Singh on March 17," he said in Faizabad. Khan’s wife, Reshma, is a Samajwadi Kranti Dal candidate in Bahraich.

Khan, who has been an MP from Bahraich twice, alleged his wife’s supporters were assaulted but BJP chief Rajnath Singh didn’t reply to his complaint.

SP workers are terrorising rivals but BJP leaders are keeping "silent”, PTI quoted him as saying. Khan alleged SP and BJP had put up weak candidates against each other's strong leaders. "Such an electoral understanding could be seen in 10 to 12 districts".

Top SP and BJP leaders have avoided direct fights and junior functionaries are indulging in "shadow fight" by levelling allegations against each other.

Alleging that state Labour Minister Waqr Shah has given wrong information to UP assembly secretariat regarding his MBBS degree", he said "there is no information about the name of the university from where he secured the MBBS degree".

Khan said he would campaign for rebel leader Beni Prasad Verma in Ayodhya, which will go to poll on May 8 next.
