SRIKAKULAM: The first class additional district judge KV Ramanaji Rao on Monday delivered capital punishment to Sankara Rao, who killed eight persons.The judge also imposed punishment on Sankara Rao under IPC section 506(2) handing over jail terms of five and 10 years respectively and a penalty of Rs 1,000 in two different cases. The judge opined that the accused could not be considered for any mercy.During the trial, 98 persons deposed as witnesses.M Sankara Rao, a CRPF constable of Mettapeta, Jalumuru mandal in Srikakulam district, had murdered his wife and was remanded to custody in 2005.Some villagers in Mettapeta were witnesses for the prosecution. Later, on November 30, 2010, he was released on bail. Shankar Rao then hatched a plan to murder all those who were witnesses against him during the trial of the murder case.He first killed his two children - son Diwakar (5) and daughter Manasa (7). He chopped off their heads and packed them in a gunny bag. He requested his friend P Venkata Rao to place the bag at Someswara Swami temple at Srimukhalingam telling him that the bag contained coconuts.After the friend placed the gunny bag at the temple and returned, Shankar Rao murdered him too.Later, he went to a witness, P Lakshmana Rao's house and invited him for a drink. Taking him to the outskits of the village, he murdered him.After that he went to the house of another witness M Yarraiah and found him asleep. That did not stop Shankar Rao and he murdered the sleeping man.After that, a relentless Shankara Rao went to Oota Simmanna's house and called him out. When Simmanna's wife opened the door, he killed her. Seeing this, Simmanna ran away.Later, Shankar Rao went to B Prakasha Rao's house and called him out. When his wife Damayanthi came out, he killed her too on the spot. Then Shankar Rao set fire to the hay, cattle shed and bullock carts in the village.The police arrested him and he was remanded again. Public prosecutor K Jeevaratnam handled the case.
