The Mumbai crime branch has arrested a man from Gujarat for allegedly posting a bomb threat on social media around the wedding of industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s son Anant to Radhika Merchant.
The July 13 post on X read: “My mind is wondering shamelessly that half the world go upside down tomorrow of a bomb went off at the Ambani wedding. Trillions of dollars in one PIN code.”
The accused is a 32-year-old engineer from Gujarat named Viral Shah. He was picked up from his residence at Vadodara.
The Mumbai police’s crime branch team went to Gujarat and arrested him on Tuesday morning.
After the post, local police was on high alert and the security at the wedding was stepped up. With the help of technical intelligence, the accused was traced to Gujarat. He is being brought to Mumbai. The police are yet to ascertain the motive.
Anant, the younger son of Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani and philanthropist Nita Ambani, on July 12 got married to pharmaceutical heiress and childhood sweetheart Radhika Merchant at a star-studded event attended by celebrities from across the globe. Saturday was the Shubh Aashirwad, Sunday reception, with a gathering for Reliance, Jio employees and the media on Monday.
