General Hospital, where doctors confirmed the woman was sufering from dengue.Most private hospitals in Guntur town and municipal hospitals in the district are filled with patients suffering from different viral fever. "The patient flow has seen a steady increase," said Dr Prabhakar of a corporate hospital in Guntur.

Speaking to Express, Guntur Medical college microbiology department head, Krishna Murthy said the situation is alarming in the district. "We tested 40 blood samples from Tulluru, Peddakakani, Vinnukonda and Tenali PHCs and area hospitals and found 16 positive cases of dengue," he added. Primary health centres, subcentres and area hospitals have reportedly given treatment to 4.39 lakh patients suffering with viral fevers from January to August end. Peddaparami in Tuluru, Namburu in Peddakakani, Angalapuduru in Tenali and Vinukoda have been identified as mosquitoprone areas.

Around 100 viral fever patients were admitted in local medical camps on Sunday.
