THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM MLA and party state secretariat member A K Balan on Thursday lodged a complaint against Government Chief Whip P C George for the ‘casteist remarks’ he made against him with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and DGP Jacob Punoose. Balan said that he took the decision to officially register a complaint after the police declined to register a suo moto case against George based on his remarks at a public meeting in Pathanapuram in Kollam district. “The Chief Minister said in the Assembly that he did not get any complaint and that he got the legal advice that a case on the issue would not stand. As soon as the Assembly proceedings were over I handed over my complaint to the Chief Minister with a copy to the DGP. Also a copy of the complaint was sent to the station house officer of Pathanapuram,’’ he said.Balan said he registered the complaint based on the Scheduled Castes and Sceduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act, Kerala Police Act and Human Rights Act. P C George made an alleged casteist remark against Balan on October 27 at a UDF public meeting in Pathanapuram. Forest Minister K B Ganesh Kumar is already on the backfoot after he used derogatory words against Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan. The LDF on Wednesday decided to boycott all official functions involving P C George and K B Ganesh Kumar in protest against the statements made by the duo against A K Balan and VS Achuthanandan. Already the Opposition has announced that it will continue its protest until both Ganesh and George resign from their respective posts.
