A day after a mother shocked the State by trying to throw her newborn baby stuffed in a polythene carry bag from a running Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) at Singaperumalkoil near Chennai, three film actors have approached a human rights organisation seeking the child’s adoption. The organisation is taking care of the girl baby at a children’s home in the city.
“Three film artistes have contacted us for adoption,” Lakshmi Raghuram, a medical organiser working with the human rights organisation, told Express. “Among them, a popular yesteryear female star, who is also acting in soap operas in Tamil satellite channels, visited our office seeking to adopt the baby,” she added.
Apart from those from the small screen, several couples have also approached the organisation for adoption with the media flashing the story of the child born to a merciless mother that fortunately survived a death trap on Wednesday. “Our organisation is yet to take a decision on the prospective adopter. But, a childless person or couple would be given priority as they can be expected to show better care and love towards the baby than others,” she added.
Meanwhile, the mother Chitra has declared in writing that she would not stake any claims for her child in the future. According to Raghuram, the woman has returned to her home at Ulundurpet in Villupuram. Chitra also underwent family planning surgery before she left for home town, she added.
It may be recalled that soon after her delivery on Tuesday, Chitra packed off the baby in a polythene carry bag. Throughout the journey between Ulundurpet and Chengalpattu, the 36-year-old mother was holding the bag with the baby. Thereafter, she attempted to throw away the carry bag containing the baby at Singaperumalkoil. Fortunately, Chitra’s attempt was foiled by alert fellow passengers.
