AAP to Launch App to Keep Track of Road Repair in Delhi
PWD minister Satyendar Jain said the move was to tackle the twin issues of ‘accidents and pollution’. To make the process more transparent, the department would also use an app, currently being used only by the NDMC.

New Delhi: The PWD has been made the nodal agency for road repair in Delhi and will be responsible for the 35,000 km road network, including areas that do not fall under the purview of the AAP government. This decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Monday.

PWD minister Satyendar Jain said the move was to tackle the twin issues of ‘accidents and pollution’. To make the process more transparent, the department would also use an app, currently being used only by the NDMC.

Explaining how it would work, Jain said a citizen would be able to upload photos of damaged roads or potholes. The complaint would then be forwarded to the concerned department, be it DDA, NDMC, Cantonment Board or MCD i.e even if the agency does not fall under the purview of the state government.

The status of repairs will also be made transparent under a separate section, ‘overdue’.

To illustrate the problem, Jain said that Delhi Jal Board had not repaired roads in Saraswati Vihar even after two years despite being given Rs 1.65 crore as funds. The minister said the new step would help these departments more accountable.

However, it would take two to three months before the app becomes fully functional.
