BANGALORE: Magical, is the apt word to describe a theatre experience, and that is exactly what the students at Baptizer theatre fest show cased. Baptizer 2012, a dip into theatre, the National Theatre Festival which was held at Christ University on February 2, 2012 witnessed a wide array of talented young artists from across the country donning some unique characters on stage.Fourteen colleges from across the country participated in the street and proscenium theatre competition. Some professionally done and some out of sheer love for theatre, the groups did justice to the stage. The competition put up by the students made it difficult for the judges to pick a single winner. JSS College, Dharwad ,who ultimately bagged the first prize for their play ‘Mahaparivartane’ were more than ecstatic to receive the ever rolling trophy which last year belonged to Farook College, Calicut. With some strong actors and a tight script the group put up an exemplary performance about the positive evolution of certain human beings that changed the course of mankind. The theatre group ‘Barefoot Productions’ from Christ University bagged the second place in proscenium theatre for the play ‘Peace in Wolf’s Den’ inspired from real life incidents during the Nazi era. ‘Zealous’ again from Christ University bagged the first prize and Sheshadripuram College won the second place for Street Theatre. Mitha Mishra, famous Kannada theatre artist, who was one of the judge for the proscenium theatre said, “Selection of play is of utmost importance, even though all the groups put up an excellent performance, some of them lost out due to bad selection of plays.” Baptizer Theatre fest which is into its sixth year now is facilitated by Script Peoples theatre to encourage young theatre artists.
