HYDERABAD: Vijayawada students bagged the top marks in both engineering and medicine streams of EAMCET-2011, the results of which were announced by Minister for Higher Education Damodar Raja Narasimha on Wednesday. Six girl students featured among the the top 10 in the agriculture and medicine streams. Except a few students from Hyderabad, no student from the remaining nine districts of Telangana region figured among the toppers. In agriculture and medicine stream Mandalapu Himaja secured 158 marks while Nusum Umamaheshwari secured 157 marks out of the total 159 marks. Both of them hail from Vijayawada. Similarly, in engineering stream, three students, Nalla Pratyush, Nagam Prasanth and Chilamkurthy Sasank, secured 155 marks. While Prasanth hails from Visakhapatnam, the other two are from Vijayawada.Of the top 10 ranks in engineering, four students are from Hyderabad while three students from the twin cities are among the top 10 in agriculture and medicine stream. JNTU officials said that ranks will be awarded after the announcement of intermediate advance supplementary results. JNTU vice-chancellor D N Reddy said that candidates can apply for revaluation and recounting of their OMR sheet till June 18. “The results of the verification will be intimated during the last week of June,” he said. Officials said that in the engineering stream the total pass percentage was 82.54 per cent. Around 2,69,988 candidates had appeared for the exam. “In engineering stream, out of the 24 regional centres covering 23 districts, Nizamabad centre stood last with 74.97 pass percentage while Vijayawada centre topped with 89.1 pass percentage,” officials said. Damodar Narasimha said that there are 704 engineering colleges in the state and said that 20 more new engineering colleges will come up in this academic year.
