HYDERABAD: The first Andhra Pradesh Teachers’ Eligibility Test was successfully conducted across the state on Sunday. Of the 3.5 lakh candidates who applied for the test, 91.5 per cent candidates took the examination. Medak district recorded the highest of 95 per cent candidates taking the test while Nellore was the lowest at 86 per cent.The APTET is a test to certify candidates as fit for teaching posts in both government and private schools. However, candidates who clear the test have to sit for the District Selction Committee examination for recruitment of teachers in government schools. Candidates who have completed the Diploma in Education (D.Ed) are eligible to become teachers for classes I to V and those with Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) degree are eligible for teaching classes VI to X.For D.Ed students, the test was conducted from 9.30 a.m to 12 noon while for B.Ed students, the test was conducted from 2.30 p.m to 5 p.m. 2.6 lakh students applied for Paper-I and around 1.6 lakh science and 1.8 lakh arts students applied for paper-II.Paper-I was conducted in nine languages of Telugu, Urdu, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Oriya, Tamil, Bengali and Gujarati while Paper-II was conducted in Telugu, Urdu, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Oriya, Tamil, and Sanskrit. 1,432 centres were arranged for Paper-I and 1,518 centres for Paper-II across the state which were manned by 1,650 chief superintendents, 6,650 hall superintendents and 19,350 invigilators. In Hyderabad, 125 centres were allotted for Paper-I for 29,500 students while 31,000 candidates wrote the Paper-II at 133 centres.“The result of TET-2011 will be announced on August 30,” said B Sesha Kumari, director of State Council of Educational Research and Training.
