New Delhi: Even as the Army shot down three ULFA militants in Tinsukia district in Assam on Friday, the police claimed that they had made a major breakthrough in their probe with the arrest of one militant.

The Tinsukia district's Superintendent of Police Prasanta Bhuyan was quoted by PTI as saying that hardcore ULFA militant, Dhruba Kujur, who belonged to the ULFA's "28 battalion", had masterminded and carried out the attack at Longswal village on January 5 that left seven people dead.

Kujur apparently confessed to his involvement and led the police to Mamoroni village where they unearthed huge amount of arms and explosives from the house of a "link-man" Pilingia Moran, who is absconding.

A series of orchestrated attacks by the ULFA followed in the districts of Tinsukia and Sibsagar that left over 70 migrant workers dead.
