New Delhi: The Mumbai police on Wednesday busted what could possibly LTTE ring by arresting four men, including three from Tamil Nadu, for alleged illegal possession of 65 digital cameras and 500 ball bearings.
The men were arrested from Vile Parle area on Monday when they being “in the process of sending across a consignment of 65 digital cameras, 500 ball bearings, 21 camera lenses, 30 motherboard chips, 30 FM radio sets and other accessories collectively valued at Rs 15 lakh to Tamil Nadu,” according to Additional Commissioner of Police (West Region) Bipin Bihari.
"The seized consignment can be meant for sale in Tamil Nadu as such items are available at reasonable prices in Mumbai. We can reach a conclusion only after we get in touch with Tamil Nadu Police," Bihari was quoted as saying by PTI.
The men - identified as Mohammed Kashim Nainar, Hamid Wahab Sultan and Mohammed Sayyed Ahmed from Tamil Nadu and Rafiq Ahmed Atiullah Sheikh, a local who works for a courier company.- could not produce necessary documents to prove the legality of the goods.
However, the police said it was too early to associate the seizure with the arrest of an alleged conduit of the banned organisation.
PTI reports that after the arrest of eight alleged LTTE men in Tamil Nadu last week, police had arrested one Miraj Saheb Ismail, a Tamil tea vendor for allegedly facilitating the purchase of over six tonnes of ball bearings allegedly for making explosives.
The 'Q' Branch of Tamil Nadu Police later arrested a businessman Asghar Ali from south central Mumbai's Null Bazaar, for selling those ball bearings.
