New Delhi: Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel on Wednesday came down heavily on the striking Indian employees and said those agitating will be suspended.

His words soon translated into action when government suspended 23 of the 12,000 protesting staff for going on a flash strike without giving any prior intimation.

Patel also warned of a lock-out in Indian Airlines. "We will review the situation this evening. If they do not withdraw their illegal strike, we will take stern action against them," he said.

About 40 per cent of the nationwide services of 'Indian' have been disrupted including cancellation and delays of a large number of flights.

"A lot of inconvenience has been caused to the passengers, which will not be accepted. They (the union) are being insensitive and the strike is a reckless move by them," he said.

Though the airline management has declared the strike illegal, it has thrown air traffic out of gear in most parts of the country, especially Mumbai.
