In a crackdown on unauthorised vehicles used for
transporting school children in the wake of the death of a six-year old girl in
Chennai, Regional Transport Officials here slapped a fine of Rs 84,000 on 14
vehciles being operated without necessary permit.The officials conducted inspections of school buses, vans
and mini vans across the district yesterday and found 14 vehicles plying
without proper permit for transporting school children, officials said.The Transport department has ordered the crackdown after the
shocking death of S Sruthi, a class II student of a private school in Chennai,
who was crushed to death under the wheels of her school bus when she fell down
through a hole on the floor of the bus near Tambaram.
Besides slapping a total fine of Rs 84,000, the
officials ordered the operators of the vehicle to apply for necessary permit
for transporting school children, they said.
