New Delhi: A fight broke out between jail inmates and jail authorities in Dasna jail of Ghaziabad on Saturday.
According to reports police resorted to firing and used tear gas shells to control the inmates.
Eighty prisoners and 30 policemen have been injured in the clash. But they are said to be out of danger.
The altercation between prisoners and jail authorities happened during a routine check up of the jail when one of the jail inmates refused to undergo a body check up.
The District Magistrate of Ghaziabad, M K Sundaram said that 20 rounds of firing took place from their side.
He added that two barracks were also put on fire.
“We have averted a major happening. We will also conduct an inquiry,” Sundaram said.
Prime accused in the Nithari serial killings case Moninder Singh Pandher and Surinder Koli are also lodged in Dasna jail.
