A 35-year-old person died on the spot while two others were hospitalised with serious injuries when a speeding ambulance, belonging to a private clinic, ploughed through a bus stop in Miyapur here on Sunday.

Around 15 persons had a narrow escape in the accident. The ambulance was going towards Chandanagar from Kukatpally. According to police, around 20 passengers were waiting at the bus stop when the driver of the speeding ambulance lost control of the vehicle and ran over them.

While the details of the deceased are yet to be known, the two injured were identified as Raj Reddy, resident of Hafeezpet and Rajasekhar, resident of Kukatpally.

The survivors complained to the police that the driver was in drunken condition. “After hitting the people, the driver drove away without stopping the vehicle,” Miyapur sub-inspector CH Ramaiah said. He added that the people had failed to notice the registration number of the ambulance.

The body of the deceased had been sent for post-mortem to Gandhi General Hospital. A negligence case against the driver has been registered.
