Chiranjeevi-starrer Bholaa Shankar turned out to be a colossal letdown after its theatrical release on August 11. The film was heavily criticised by the critics as well as the audience for having a lacklustre storyline and the lack of the elements needed for a mass entertainer.
After a disappointing theatrical run, Bholaa Shankar made it to the OTT giant Netflix and has been streaming since September 15. Contrary to the theatrical response, the film is receiving a good response after its OTT release.
Bholaa Shankar is currently trending at the first position on Netflix. The film, ever since its release, has been at the first spot followed by Ramabanam. Notably, the Chiranjeevi starrer was made on a budget of a whopping Rs 110 crore. However, the film managed to mint only Rs 42 crore leading it to become a box-office disaster.
Moreover, the reports suggested that the Telugu state rights for Bholaa Shankar were estimated at approximately Rs 76 crore but it accumulated less than Rs 20 crore which made the producers suffer a staggering loss of around Rs 60 crore.
As far as Bholaa Shankar’s storyline is concerned, the film unravels the life of Shankar (Chiranjeevi) who arrives in Kolkata with his sister Mahalakshmi (Keerthy Suresh). In order to survive, he takes up the job of a taxi driver during which he finds out about the existing woman trafficking crimes in the city. He, then, helps the Calcutta police with an important clue about the same and also makes several attempts to nab the criminals. Amidst all this, his life takes a drastic turn. Further, how Shankar hunts down the network is the basic storyline and the core theme of the film.
Apart from Chiranjeevi and Keerthy Suresh, the film also features Tamannaah Bhatia, Raghu Babu, Murali Sharma, P Ravi Shankar, Vennela Kishore, Sreemukhi and others.
Speaking of Chiranjeevi, the actor is having a tough time as his last few releases – Acharya, Godfather and Waltair Veerayya fell flat at the box office. Next, he will be seen in numerous films including The Journalist which was tentatively titled Chiru 157.
