TikTok is one of the most popular social media platforms, known for its short-form videos. Over time, they have increased the allowed video length to 10 minutes, which means there are plenty of TikToks that take a long time to watch. Fortunately, it's easy to speed up video playback so you can watch them faster. You can also record your own videos at faster speeds. This wikiHow article teaches you how to do 2x speed on TikTok.

Watching Videos at 2x Speed

Find a video you want to fast-forward through. You can fast-forward through videos on TikTok to get through them more quickly without missing anything (except sponsored videos). This is especially useful for "story time" and other long-form narrative videos. Find a video you want to fast-forward through. Tap and hold the left or right side of the screen. Doing this while a video is playing will play the video at 2x speed. Release your finger to resume normal speed. The video will continue to play at 2x speed for as long as you hold down the edge of the screen. Release your finger to resume watching the video at normal speed.

Recording at 2x Speed

Tap + to make a new TikTok. In addition to watching videos at 2x speed, you can also record videos at 2x speed. This is useful to speed through boring parts of a video or you can use it for effect. It's the icon with the plus (+) sign at the bottom of the screen in the center.

Select a sound for your video (optional). If you want to use a sound, tap Add sound at the top of the screen, then select the sound you want to use. You can also tap the magnifying glass icon to search for sounds. You will hear the sound played back at half speed while recording at 2x speed.

Select how long of a video you want to post. Tap one of the tabs above the red record button at the bottom of the screen to select 15s for 15 seconds, 60s for a minute, or 10m for 10 minutes. You don't have to use the entire time you selected when recording a video. Select the most amount of time that you think you will need.

Tap the speed icon. The icon resembles a speedometer with the current speed selected below the icon. It's in the menu bar on the right side. By default, it will say 1x.

Tap 2x. It's in the fly-out menu that appears when you tap the speed icon on the right. Alternatively, you can select 3x for 3x speed, or slow down the video.

Record your video. Tap the red record button at the bottom of the screen to start recording, then tap it again to stop recording. Alternatively, you can press and hold the record button to record and release it to stop. Tap the checkmark icon at the bottom of the screen when you are done recording. Alternatively, you can use the timer to create a countdown for when the video will start recording. Tap the timer in the menu to the right and then select 3s to create a 3-second countdown or 10s to create a 10-second countdown, then tap Start countdown at the bottom. If a sound is selected, you can select when you want the video to stop recording using the slider bar at the bottom of the screen.

Post your sped-up video. Once you are done recording, tap Next at the bottom of the screen and write a description for your video. Be sure to include relevant hashtags. Tap Post at the bottom of the screen to post your TikTok. Your video will play at 2x speed when viewed.
