Florida: Michel scored in the 53rd minute to give Valencia a 1-0 victory over Everton on Tuesday in the playoff for fifth place in the eight-team Guinness International Champions Cup.
Michel, returning to the club for the coming campaign after spending the last season at city rival Levante, controlled Aly Cissohko's cross from the left side with his chest, let the ball settle at his feet and fired his shot past Everton's Spanish goalkeeper Joel. The goal held up even though Everton had more than one good chance at the equaliser.
Everton's best opportunity came shortly after Michel's goal, when Kevin Mirallas flicked a ball to himself, took off up the right wing and sent a cross that got through the box - but didn't result in a shot on goal.
Joel kept Everton within one when he made a point-blank save on Robert Ibanez in the 69th minute, coming off his line to deny the Valencia forward.
Meanwhile, Inter Milan beat Juventus on penalties to finish seventh in the International Champions Cup. The teams finished regulation time at 1-1.
