Tottenham are currently on a back foot in the race for Conor Gallagher as they just cannot match Chelsea’s asking fee due to Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. Despite being promoted to the role of vice-captain it looks like Gallagher’s days with the Blues could be numbered. Chelsea’s need to balance the books could see them acquire £60 million for their player but FFP guidelines are causing a hindrance in the development of a deal.
A post shared by Transfer News Live revealed on X, “Tottenham are unlikely to make a move for Conor Gallagher in January because they are unable to meet Chelsea’s £60 million demands because of FFP restrictions.”

Conor Gallagher is a homegrown Chelsea midfielder who has drawn interest from Tottenham Hotspur this season. He has been a key figure in Chelsea’s midfield and is easily one of the best players at the club. The Blues are certainly in no mood to part ways with their player due to his pivotal role at the London-based club.
Gallagher even donned the captain’s armband for Chelsea when Reece James and Ben Chilwell weren’t featuring. He has appeared 23 times this season for his side, scoring four goals in the ongoing campaign. Gallagher still has 18 months left on his contract. Hence, it would be a good time for the club to cash in on their midfielder. While Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino aims to strengthen the club for next season, he certainly wouldn’t back away from a good deal for his player.
Tottenham on the other hand are expected to see several departures this season. The Spurs will be hoping that Gallagher can fill the shoes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the first team. However, they are still not convinced enough to shell out £60 million over an unproven player even if they can afford him. Mauricio Pochettino has been keeping a close eye on the English talent but it is unlikely that a deal will solidify in this winter transfer saga.
Speaking of other transfers, Chelsea’s Trevah Chalobah has been injured for the major part of his ongoing season. Having missed 24 games due to his thigh injury, it is highly unlikely that any good deal will be available in January for him. There were some rumours about interest from Jose Mourinho-coached side Roma but it looks like Chalobah will most likely remain at Stamford Bridge until 2028. Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen has been on the radar of Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund and can also be on the verge of leaving the Blues this season.
