New Delhi: Temporary Real Madrid coach Juande Ramos has stated that he believes his Real Madrid side have what it takes to knock out Liverpool in their imminent Champions League encounter.
Los Blancos are currently on an impressive run of form since the introduction of Ramos to the Bernabeu in December, losing just once in that time and cutting Barcelona’s league lead domestically to just seven points.
Liverpool on the other hand dropped further behind English Premier League leaders Manchester United, after a disheartening 1-1 draw at home to Manchester City left the Reds seven points adrift of the champions, and their title challenge looks to be slipping away.
Role reversal
It has been a reversal of fortunes for both clubs in recent weeks, and Ramos believes that this swing could be pivotal in Real Madrid progressing to the last eight for the first time in five seasons.
He said in an interview for Marca, "Liverpool have faltered recently while we are on the up.
"(Real) Madrid is edging forward while Liverpool is falling a little further behind. We need to make this a great game at the Bernabeu and I have absolute confidence that my players can achieve this."
Real Madrid were clinical in their 6-1 demolition of Real Betis on Saturday evening in preparation for Wednesday’s first leg fixture at the Santiago Bernabeu.
