According to a report in Express.co.uk, Chelsea are considering a surprise move for Cameroon veteran Samuel Eto'o as back-up if their bid for Wayne Rooney is not accepted.
The Russian side have been forced to slash their budget in half and have now put every player up for sale. Inter and Napoli are also interested in signing the Cameroon international.
Chelsea are still confident of signing Rooney, who missed the Community Shield final against Wigan Athletic. Mourinho is preparing a third bid for him, of about 28 million pounds, and a source close to the club told the Daily Express.
Mourinho, in the past 48 hours, has made enquiries about Anzhi Makhachkala striker Eto'o as a possible bargain 5 million pounds back-up. Mourinho tried to sign the striker in his first spell at Chelsea. Eto'o played under Mourinho at Inter Milan and has been made available by the Russian club.
