In a bid to strengthen the back four, Manchester United manager David Moyes is likely to sign former Real Madrid and current Benfica defender Ezequiel Garay for £17 million as per reports. Reports suggest that the EPL champions are in "advanced negotiations" with 26-year-old Argentine and are expected to complete the signing in the next couple of days.
With injury concerns over Nemanja Vidic and age being a factor for Rio Ferdinand, Garay could very well prove to a vital cog in United's title defence this season. The Argentine centre-back has put in solid performances for the Lisbon-based Portugese side Benfica who were second behind FC Porto in Primeira Liga and reached the Europa League final only to be overwhelmed by Chelsea.
Garay who started his career at Newell's Old Boys, came to the limelight playing for Racing de Santander for three years which lead him to Real Madrid in 2008 where he got very limited playing time. Madrid had transferred Garay to Benfica in place of Fábio Coentrão.
