Zurich: The official overseeing the next FIFA presidential election has reminded Sepp Blatter to stick with his plans to step down.
The Sunday statement from Domenico Scala , head of FIFA's audit and compliance committee, follows a report in Swiss newspaper Schweiz am Sonntag that Blatter is considering trying to stay on after receiving support from Africa and Asia.
The 79-year-old Blatter announced on June 2 he would quit, only four days after being re-elected for a fifth term amid deepening criminal investigations into FIFA corruption.
Highlighting the need for reform of FIFA, Scala said that "it is clearly indispensable to follow through with the initiated process of leadership change as it has been announced."
The FIFA executive committee meets July 20 to set the election date, which will be between December and February.
