New Delhi: The Gunners boss would like his top players to stay and help the club develop, rather than leave in what he feels is a misguided attempt to improve their careers.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has issued a plea for his players to remain at the Emirates and look to win honours in north London, rather then leaving for other clubs in the pursuit of silverware.
Pressure will grow on Wenger's position as manager of the club if they once again fail to win a major honour this season.
Cracks were already appearing on Saturday, when the Frenchman's team were greeted on the final whistle by a chorus of boos and jeers from Gunner faithful, who have seemingly sickened of a diet of beautiful football with little tangible reward.
Arsenal are currently fifth in the league, six points behind Aston Villa, and winning the Champions League may well be their only avenue left to secure a place in next season's competition.
They have also not won a trophy since the 2005 FA Cup, and Wenger's position will surely be scrutinisied if this season also proves barren.
Which is probably why the Frenchman is so keen to keep his talented squad together for many seasons to come, believing it to be the only way the Gunners will win things in future. He also feel that the success of his more 'ethical' approach to team building will bear fruit in the end, given patience.
"It's important to keep the team together whatever happens, it's important to educate the players," he told Setanta Sports News earlier. You feel after four or five years they will be more of a team than players who have been bought on the market and put together. I believe that is why we have followed this policy," he said.
"We want to have values in our side that are more than players being brought together on the market and just saying 'let's win trophies and parade them'.
"We want a different ideal for the game and for our football. No matter what happens it's very important for the players to stay together," he added.
Meanwhile, Czech forward Tomas Rosicky is nearing fitness for Arsenal, but will certainly not feature in either of the legs of the forthcoming Champions League match-up with Roma.
"He won’t play in either of the legs against Roma," the Arsenal boss explained.
"He played his last game 13 months ago so it is difficult to say when he will be back to his best. He has been working hard in training and you would say he will need two months in competition to get back to his best," he said.
