NEET UG 2024 Paper Leak And Corruption:

In response to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s social media statement on NEET UG 2024, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on June 13 denied his claims of corruption, paper leakage, and rigging. He claimed there was no proof to support the accusations made against Congress, accusing them of politicising a delicate subject and the future of education. The NEET UG 2024 results were announced by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on June 4. Meanwhile, Pradhan’s comments came on the same day that the NTA informed the Supreme Court that the decision to award grace marks to 1,563 NEET-UG students for admission to MBBS, BDS, and other courses had been cancelled, and they would be given the option of retaking the exam on June 23.

Three Attacks In J&K In 72 Hours:

According to central intelligence agencies, a new terror network consisting of on-the-ground workers, locals, and local terrorists is accused of assisting foreign terrorists implicated in three strikes in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in the last 72 hours. The attacks killed 11 people and injured nearly 50 others. In each of these attacks, suspected foreign terrorists obtained precise information regarding the escape routes, locations, and camps of security forces, causing alarm. Agencies suspect that a new or updated network of local support is assisting, including logistical support.

Mumbai Airport Scare:

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has initiated an investigation after two planes came dangerously close on the runway at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on June 8. Social media users shared a video of two planes using the same runway to take off and land. According to reports, the two aircraft were only 500 metres apart. A short while after an Air India aircraft took off for Thiruvananthapuram, an IndiGo flight from Indore touched down on the same runway. The DGCA representative stated, “We have already de-rostered the ATCO involved in the incident and we are conducting a probe.”

India to Participate in Swiss Peace Summit:

On June 12, India announced that it would take an appropriate role in the upcoming peace summit in Switzerland on the Ukraine crisis. The summit will be held at Bürgenstock in Lucerne on June 15 and June 16. The Swiss government has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend. However, indications specify that a senior diplomat may represent India at the summit, therefore he will almost certainly not attend. According to Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra, India will attend the peace summit in Switzerland at the “appropriate level”. Alexandre Fasel, Swiss state secretary of foreign affairs, paid a visit to India last month to invite leaders to the summit.

Mumbai Hoarding Collapse Update:

According to an interim probe, the foundation of the hoarding that collapsed on a petrol pump in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar on May 13 lacked sufficient strength to withstand overturning caused by wind forces on that day. A team of professors from the Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute’s Department of Structural Engineering conducted the inquiry that resulted in these conclusions. While the foundation’s overturning resistance was just 7,000 kilonewtons per metre (kNm), the wind-induced overturning moment on a fateful day was around 21,000 kNm. According to police, 17 people died and 74 were injured when an illegal hoarding measuring 120 feet × 120 feet toppled into a nearby petrol pump during a dust storm and unseasonal rains on May 13. Following the disaster, the Brihamumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) requested that the VJTI investigate the circumstances surrounding the hoarding crash.
