On August 26, India will be celebrating Krishna Janmashtami, one of the most auspicious Hindu festivals. Banks and educational institutions like schools and colleges remain closed as part of the festivities. People celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna on this day. The celebration is integral to Uttar Pradesh as Mathura is the birthplace of the Lord and Vrindavan is where he grew up. On this occasion, children generally dress up as Radha or Krishna and win everyone’s hearts with their costumes and dialogues. Looks like 67 districts in Uttar Pradesh will get a 5-day consecutive holiday, owing to the Police Constable Recruitment Exam.
The month of August was filled with holidays as schools remained closed due to heavy rains. Then students got holidays on Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan as well, which gave them a great chance to enjoy the long weekend. Now, amid the Janmashtami celebrations, the schools in various districts of UP will remain closed.
This year, the Janmashtami festivities will be celebrated on August 26, Monday. This means a three-day holiday for school-going children and office goers as well if they get Saturdays off. From August 23 onwards, schools have been closed till August 31 as the UP Police Constable Recruitment Exam is being conducted.
Over 4.6 million candidates have applied for 60,244 vacant constable posts in UP Police. A total of 1,174 centres have been set up for the Recruitment exam. In Lucknow, about 81 schools will be closed. The examination will take place in two shifts every day. Shift 1 will be from 10 am to 12 pm and Shift 2 from 3 pm to 5 pm.
