Sunrisers Hyderabad batters continued their stunning show as they faced Delhi Capitals in an IPL 2024 match on Saturday night. In a stunning assault in the Powerplay, SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma set a new benchmark by racking up 125 runs – the highest score during the phase in all of Men’s T20 cricket.
The two left-handed batters spared no one. The carnage began from the first over itself when Head creamed Khaleel Ahmed for 19 runs. As it turned out, that was the most economical over of the fielding restrictions.
Head blasted 89 off 32 with the help of 11 fours and six sixes while Abhishek made 46 off just 12, an innings featuring two fours and six sixes. During the time the pair was batting, SRH looked set to breach the 300-run mark before Kuldeep Yadav struck thrice in quick time to dent their progress.

However, by the time SRH innings ended, they had posted a mammoth 266/7 – the fourth highest team total in IPL history and the third time they had crossed 250-run mark in IPL 2024 alone.
As many as three DC bowlers conceded in excess of 50 runs on a pitch that was batting paradise. Only Axar Patel escaped the assault, returning impressive bowling figures of 1/29 from four overs.

South Africa bowling legend Dale Steyn was also stunned by what he saw but he pointed out how the changing landscape of T20 cricket has made quality bowlers a precious commodity.
“I could make a joke and say I’m glad I’m retired and no longer bowling, but…It’s always a good time to be a bowler, if you can make yourself the best, you’ll be a wanted god among mere mortals. The slayer of rampaging runs!” Steyn posted on X (formerly Twitter).
“Insensitive’s (incentives) have never been higher. I’d wana be a bowler more than anything!” he added.
