WPL 2024: Virat Kohli Video Calls Smriti Mandhana After RCB's Win Maiden Title
Virat Kohli got on a video call with Smriti Mandhana after Royal Challengers Bangalore clinched their maiden title by winning the WPL 2024.

Former captain of men’s team Virat Kohli made a video call to women’s team skipper Smriti Mandhana following Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) historic win over Delhi Capitals in the final of the 2024 Women’s Premier League on Sunday.

RCB beat DC by eight wickets to clinch their maiden WPL title at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

WPL Final: DC vs RCB – HIGHLIGHTS

A generation of RCB fans have waited for this moment, a wait that often gave fodder to social media trolls and memes.

All they could show during these years were three final appearances in 2009, 2011 and 2016.

But all that changed on Sunday night. They have a trophy in their cabinet now.

The franchise shared a photo on X, where Kohli can be seen speaking and congratulating RCB Women captain Smriti Mandhana for her team’s maiden WPL title through a video call.

Kohli also took his Instagram and lauded the women’s team by calling them ‘Superwomen’.

RCB chased down a target of 114 runs with 8 wickets and three balls in hand to secure the first title in the history of their franchise.

The crowd at the Arun Jaitley Stadium erupted with chants of “Kohli Kohli” as soon as the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) won the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 title, here on Sunday.

The long-used phrase of ‘Ee Sala Cup Namde’, which translates to ‘this year the cup is ours’, and the ridicule around it came to an end as a far-fetched dream finally became a reality for RCB in winning their first-ever WPL title and become just the second winners in the history of the competition.

Speaking to IANS, some fans believed that RCB would win the IPL 2024 title as well. “Now that the women won it, the men’s side too will lift the title,” said one of the fans.

The fans who filled the Jaitley stadium to the rafters also made this festival-like occasion, constantly rooting for their favourite teams and dancing to the tunes of drums and music.

But in the end, the red and gold brigade from the far South brought up a popular win.
