'What a Way to Kick Off my Birthday Week!': Sachin Tendulkar Plays Football, Shares Stories And Cuts Cake With Kids

Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar is celebrating his 51st birthday today. The Master Blaster shared how he kicked off his birthday week by playing football with a group of talented girls in Ranchi.

The India great, along with his wife Anjali Tendulkar paid, a visit to the Yuwa Foundation in Ranchi where they spent some time with underprivileged children, who dream of becoming football players in future.

Apart from the power couple, several members of the Sachin Tendulkar Foundation also visited Ranchi.

Yuwa Foundation and Tendulkar’s organisation have collaborated to help young female footballers of the district pursue their dreams. The motto of both NGOs is to utilise education and sports to empower young girls.

It was a fun-filled day for Tendulkar, who spent time playing football with the children. He also took part in the cake-cutting ceremony.

The former India cricketer shared his experience via a post on social media.

Sharing a few glimpses from his Ranchi visit, Tendulkar wrote, “What a way to kick off my birthday week! I had so much fun playing football, sharing stories and cutting my birthday cake with these incredible girls who are supported by the Sachin Tendulkar Foundation. They were the first ones to wish me and it made my week truly special.”

Tendulkar and his wife also interacted with the parents of the young girls.

Speaking to the media personnel, Tendulkar said, “The reason behind me coming here is the children. If we get a chance to smile because of them, then there can’t be anything bigger than that. I will come here again soon.”

He also appreciated the efforts of the Yuwa Foundation, underlining its “sincerity, dedication and commitment” towards humanitarian works.

“Something that the Yuwa Foundation has managed to achieve is changing the lives of these girls, providing direction, and channelling their energy. I feel extremely happy that I could be here with Anjali, though she is standing behind me, she is the captain of our ship as far as the foundation is concerned. Today has been a satisfying day for us,” Tendulkar said.

He is currently involved in the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he serves as the mentor of Mumbai Indians. He has been associated with the Mumbai-based side since the inaugural 2008 season of IPL.
