“What a great honour meeting our honourable prime minister Shri Narendra Modi ji today @narendramodi,” Kohli wrote.

“Thank you sir for inviting us to the prime ministers residence,” he added.

PM Modi later posted on social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) of his ‘excellent meeting’ with the champions.

“An excellent meeting with our Champions! Hosted the World Cup winning team at 7, LKM and had a memorable conversation on their experiences through the tournament,” Modi wrote.

The Indian contingent arrived early Thursday morning at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi after winning the T20 World Cup where they beat South Africa in the final.

They were stuck in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl that forced the airport to be shut down. Once normal services were restored, the BCCI arranged a special Air India flight to bring the squad back to India.

After their meeting with PM, the squad has left for Mumbai where they will be first felicitated by the BCCI at the Wankhede Stadium which will be followed by an open bus parade in Mumbai.

India are the first team in the history of T20 World Cup to have won the competition unbeaten. This is their first ICC title since 2013.
