Chennai Super Kings may win or lose, the fans have their priorities sorted: They want to watch MS Dhoni in action at the ongoing IPL 2024. Whenever Dhoni walks in to bat, takes a catch or makes a diving stop, the crowd erupts.
His every move is met with a volcanic reception from the crowd, as if he’d achieved something truly remarkable. ‘Thala’ continues to be showered with love wherever he plays and it doesn’t matter if the backdrop is the Yellow of Chepauk or the Orange of Hyderabad.
It was no different on Friday evening at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The Orange of Sunrisers Hyderabad meshed with the Yellow of the CSK faithful.
The supporters of the two teams, though, joined hands (as well as voices) to welcome Dhoni to a huge burst of chants of “Dhoni, Dhoni, Dhoni” as he walked in to bat.
The five-time IPL-winning captain came in to bat in the final over of the CSK innings with just three balls left.

“He is going down as a legend. Especially in this country, as well,” SRH wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen said in a video shared by IPL on their social media handles.
Aiden Markram, who led SRH last season, echoed the sentiments of his fellow countryman, saying, “Yeah, he’s still got it. He is still the legend.”
Indian left-arm bowler Jaydev Unadkat stated that Dhoni has an “aura” about him.
“There is no point denying the fact that everyone is an MS Dhoni fan. That man has got an aura behind him,” Unadkat said. “I think he is a crowd-pleaser and everyone loves him, including myself and everyone in the country. What he has done for the country has been absolutely invaluable.”
Dhoni’s role this season has been limited after he handed over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad. He has looked his usual self with wicketkeeping duties, pulling off some impressive efforts. He has walked in to bat in just two games.
