In his third season of IPL career, B Sai Sudharsan has taken a significant jump towards establishing himself as one of the leading performers of the T20 league. The ongoing IPL 2024 is turning out to be quite a productive one for the Gujarat Titans top-order batter who on Friday peeled off his maiden century of the competition.
During the course of his innings, he also became the quickest ever Indian to score 1000 runs in IPL history, shaving off the earlier record held by Sachin Tendulkar by six innings.
The 22-year-old has scored 527 runs from 12 innings so far and is the leading run-getter for his franchise in the season. Both his strike-rate (141.29) and average (47.91) have been impressive too.
South Africa legend Graeme Smith feels that Sudharsan is such an unassuming character that he goes under the radar and it’s time that he should get his fare share of the limelight.
“Sudharsan is so under the radar, he is the leading run-scorer for GT this season, the fastest Indian to a thousand IPL runs with a difference of six innings. He needs to start being spoken about a bit more,” said Smith on JioCinema.

IPL winning coach and former Australia fast bowler Tom Moody reckons Sudharsan can change his game according to the match situation.
“The way this young player goes about his business is a joy to watch. He seems so calm under pressure. He seems to have the right answers at the right time. He knows when to go big to look for that boundary to take pressure out of an over and he seems to be able to keep pace with the game,” said Moody.
Together with GT captain Shubman Gill who also scored a century, Sudharsan stitched a double-century stand for the first wicket against Chennai Super Kings as the former champions posted a match-winning total of 231/3.
“The partnership was excellent, left-hand-right-hand combination, they ran between the wickets well; they picked their targets, and their matchups were just outstanding,” Moody said.
“The partnership was nothing short of extraordinary. They complemented each other exceptionally well, evident in their visible enjoyment on the field, as Gill expressed during the post-match presentation. This camaraderie is crucial for any backing and partnership,” he added.
