The Gujarat Titans have bounced back to winning ways as they beat Punjab Kings at the Mullanpur Stadium in Mohali by three wickets to get them up to eight points in as many games in the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League.
The skipper Shubman Gill chipped in with a handy knock of 35 in 29 balls in what was tough conditions to bat on, especially against the spinners.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Gill suggested that the game could have been finished quickly to help rack up the net run rate which is currently at -1.055 for GT but was happy getting the win.
“Would have liked to finish it a bit early, but it’s good to get the two points,” said the GT skipper.

Gill was handed down the role as skipper for the franchise following the blockbuster all-cash deal where their former skipper Hardik Pandya went back to Mumbai Indians meaning the opening batter had to step up.
He said,” It’s been very exciting for me to be able to take up this role. Except for the over-rate, everything has been good”.

Speaking on his mindset when batting, he does not look to burden himself with the added responsibility as the leader of the side, rather looks to keep it simple and play as he always has, winning the orange cap in 2023.
He added,” When I am out there batting, I just want to play as a batter, I don’t want to think too much about the captaincy”.
Gill was also asked about the on-field chatter he had with the PBKS’s spinner, Liam Livingstone. While there was nothing over the top, the two were clearly on edge as the competition went up a notch. But Livingstone got the wicket he was eyeing for with a catch by Kagiso Rabada.

He concluded by saying,” He was trying to rush me there but the ball that I got out, I would have made that decision regardless even without that little bit that we had.
Gill reckons that he would not have gone about that shot in any other way indicating that the on-field tensions did not have a role to play in his decision-making at the time.
