India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup was announced on Tuesday. With Rohit Sharma leading the team at the showpiece event, the selection committee announced the group of 15 on expected lines. Still, one particular omission baffled some; the exclusion of young leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi.
Bishnoi currently claims the sixth spot in the ICC Men’s T20I bowling rankings, but could not find a place in the 15-member squad. His omission did surprise many and former India cricketer Irfan Pathan recently shared his views on this matter.
Reacting to this development on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Irfan Pathan wrote, “If I am sitting pretty at 6th in the ICC T20I rankings, but not in the World Cup lineup, it’s a tough pill to swallow. Ravi Bishnoi.”

Having made his T20I debut in February 2022, Ravi Bishnoi came up with a series of impressive performances to rise to the top spot in the bowling rankings in this format soon. Bishnoi became the number 1 bowler in T20Is in December last year following his sublime show against Australia. The 23-year-old had picked up nine wickets in five matches in that series. Bishnoi dethroned Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan to claim the top spot.
