Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka cheering up for KL Rahul at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium sent positive vibes all around. A week after the former’s outburst on Rahul, which was very well captured on camera, the happy scenes at the national capital have certainly indicated that all is well between the LSG skipper and the ownership.

Goenka let his emotions flow after Rahul took a juggling catch to dismiss Shai Hope in the 9^th over. The West Indies batter slapped a flatter delivery by Ravi Bishnoi towards cover but found the LSG skipper stationed there. The ball popped out of Rahul’s hands in the first attempt but he dived and grabbed it with both hands before the ball hit the ground.

While Rahul was calm after taking the catch safely, Goenka was seen giving his team’s captain a standing ovation for his outstanding efforts.

Hours before the DC vs LSG fixture in New Delhi, Goenka and Rahul were seen sharing a warm hug after the former hosted a special dinner for the team in the national capital.

Goenka was in the eye of the storm after his animated chat with Rahul was perceived to be a public dressing of the captain, after LSG lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 10 wickets on May 8. Former cricketers and fans termed Goenka’s actions unnecessary, suggesting to discuss such issues behind closed doors.

On the other hand, a complete silence in the LSG camp also added fuel to the episode, leading to reports of KL Rahul likely to step down from the captaincy for the remainder of IPL 2024 and unlikely to be retained ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auctions.

Langer’s clarification on the matter

LSG coach Justin Langer has claimed that the conversation between the two was quite ‘tame’ and in the absence of any sound, it gave the wrong impression.

“It’s a massive storm in a teacup, in fact in an espresso cup,” Langer told The Times of India.

“Our plan for the game didn’t go perfectly. In fact, it was a disaster. After the game, Mr Goenka came onto the field and asked KL, ‘What happened? Our plan that we talked about hasn’t worked. What do we do now?’ And then we talked through it. The sound was off, no one heard what was said. It might have looked quite aggressive, but it was really quite tame.”
