Rahul Dravid's Straight Forward Answer to Ishan Kishan's Return: 'Not at the Moment...'
India head coach Rahul Dravid said Ishan Kishan won’t be back into the side immediately as the 25-year-old ‘isn’t ready’.

Team India on Monday defeated England by 106 runs in Visakhapatnam to level the 5-match series 1-1. The hosts produced a stunning display with the bat and ball to outclass the visitors and bounce back in the series. But as the first two Test matches end, the anticipation will be about Virat Kohli’s return for the remaining series and also, on the availability of Ishan Kishan.

While Kohli pulled out of the first two matches citing personal reasons, questions loomed over the unavailability of Ishan Kishan who didn’t feature in the South Africa Tests as well. The former’s absence isn’t a major concern as the former Indian captain is likely to become a father for the second time and thus, opted out. However, everything seems gloomy in Kishan’s case.

Following the conclusion of the Visakhapatnam Test on Monday, head coach Rahul Dravid addressed a press conference where he was asked if the Jharkhand wicketkeeper-batter would return for the next game in Rajkot.

Without giving out much on the matter, the Indian head coach said the management is in touch with Kishan. Dravid further added that he won’t be back into the side immediately as the 25-year-old ‘isn’t ready’

“I just don’t want to go on laboring about the Ishan Kishan point. I try to explain this as best as I can. You know, the point was, he requested a break and we were happy to give him the break. And whenever he was ready, I didn’t say he had to play domestic cricket. I said, whenever he is ready, he needs to play some cricket and come back and the choice is right, not forcing him to do anything, said Dravid at the presser.

“We’re in touch with him. But he hasn’t yet started playing right. So it’s not at the moment. It’s not something that we would consider, because he’s maybe not ready. He will decide when he wants to be ready. I’m sure the selectors will assess all the options,” he added.

Ishan Kishan is yet to play in the Ranji Trophy 2024

After making himself unavailable for Team India, Kishan hasn’t participated in the ongoing Ranji Trophy as well. After pulling out of South Africa Tests due to mental fatigue, he didn’t play in the 3-match T20I series against Afghanistan, and neither went back into the domestic arena.
