Chennai Super Kings batter Rachin Ravindra has revealed what it’s like to play alongside one of cricket’s most successful captains MS Dhoni. Rachin made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut this year with the five-time champions. Having failed to qualify for the playoffs, the Kiwi batter is now preparing himself for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. Ahead of his team’s crucial fixture against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rachin gave an interview to Middle Stump Mic about Dhoni. In the interview, Rachin Ravindra was asked about what it felt like to share the locker room with the World Cup-winning skipper. He replied, “Yeah, it’s a pretty special feeling.”

In the clip, Rachin Ravindra could be seen rocking some loose fits including a brown pair of shorts and a black round neck. He then spoke about what made MS Dhoni special as a leader. “I think a guy who’s achieved so much, to be able to share a field with him, not just on the field but the wisdom he gives you off it, is extremely valuable”, he said. The New Zealand batter was then asked about the bottle he was holding in his hands. He replied by saying, “It’s black water, I am just trying to hydrate myself”.
Rachin Ravindra is a 24-year-old top-order batter who plays for New Zealand. His parents had migrated to the island country in the 1990s from Bengaluru. For the unversed, Rachin’s name has been derived from two of India’s greatest-ever cricketers Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. He has often been asked about his Indian origin by fans on the internet. However, Rachin has been quite vocal about being a proud Kiwi since he was born and brought up in New Zealand.
Rachin Ravindra had taken the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in India by storm last year. He emerged as the tournament’s fourth-highest scorer with 578 runs, also smashing three centuries in the tournament. His spoils led to a lot of hype surrounding him ahead of the 2024 IPL auction. Despite the hype, the Chennai Super Kings were able to get away with a steal deal for the New Zealand batter. They bought Rachin for a mere amount of Rs 1.8 crores.
Having played 10 games in the 2024 IPL campaign, Rachin Ravindra amassed 222 runs for the Chennai Super Kings. A mixed season for the New Zealand star led to Chennai missing out on the playoff spot after losing their deciding fixture to Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium by 27 runs.
