'New Stadium Will Be Our Lucky Charm': Shikhar Dhawan's Hopes for Punjab Kings Ahead of IPL 2024
Punjab Kings had a dismal season last year, finishing their season in a disappointing eighth-place slot, securing only 6 wins and incurring 8 losses.

New home, new team? Well, Shikhar Dhawan sure hopes so, as the Punjab Kings skipper voiced his hopes for the team ahead of the new 2024 IPL Season at their new jersey launch event yesterday.

Punjab Kings had a dismal season last year, finishing their season in a disappointing eighth-place slot, securing only 6 wins and incurring 8 losses.

After having gone trophyless so far in the last 16 editions of the IPL, Dhawan expressed belief in his team and stated that the new home stadium may just bring some much-needed luck for their side as they embark on the 17th season.

“The new jersey has new details and everyday is a new day and you come up with new ideas. We always look forward to positive vibes ahead of the tournament,” Dhawan said at the jersey launch event.

“The new stadium will be our lucky charm. We are trying to think positively. We are very grateful to Mohali and we thank the Mohali stadium, its groundsmen,” he further added.

The new home ground mentioned by Dhawan is that of the newly-built Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in Mullanpur, Mohali, which will host the Punjab Kings’ home matches in the upcoming edition of the IPL.

“The Mullanpur stadium also has a well-equipped herringbone drainage system, which helps in removal of water within 25-30 minutes after the rain stops. Instead of using traditional soil, the ground is made of sand, which is difficult to maintain, but provides good stability.

“It is equipped with two international-standard dressing rooms having facilities for steam, sauna and ice bath, while a world-class gym has also been set up at this complex,” a press release from the Punjab Kings stated.

The Kings will surely be hoping that all the change will bring about some change in their teams’ performances as well, as they aim to embark on a successful campaign this year.

PBKS secured their best-ever finish as runners-up of the tournament back in 2014, where they were defeated by the Kolkata Knight Riders in the final.

This year, the Punjab Kings will open their campaign with a match against the Delhi Capitals at home in Mohali on Saturday, 23 March.
