From the cricket field to commercial advertisements, the stars of Indian cricket are shining everywhere as the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is underway. At the same time, social media keeps buzzing with the development across all 10 teams as fans are always curious to know what their favourite cricketers are up to. The same was the scenario on Friday when a picture featuring the trio of Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni and master-blaster Sachin Tendulkar surfaced on social media.

The three legends of the game could be seen in some restaurant and the set-up looks like a set of an ad shoot. As soon as the picture surfaced on micro-blogging site X, fans began sharing it and guessing the reason behind their reunion.

Both Rohit and Dhoni are no longer in the captain’s role in the ongoing season of the IPL. The legendary wicketkeeper-batter relinquished his post just a day before the commencement of the season, handing the responsibility to young opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad. On the other hand, Rohit was replaced by Hardik Pandya after MI acquired the all-rounder for an all-cash deal with Gujarat Titans last year.

No plans of retirement: Rohit Sharma

India’s defeats to Australia in the WTC and the World Cup finals still hurt Rohit as he nourishes the dream of playing in those tournaments’ upcoming editions in 2025 and 2027. In a special edition of Breakfast with Champions, which British pop singer Ed Sheeran also attended, the Indian captain said he is thinking of playing for the country for some more years.

“I am playing well at the moment and I am thinking of continuing for a few more years. I really want to win that World Cup. The 50-over World Cup is the actual World Cup. We have grown up watching the 50-over World Cup.

“There is the World Test Championship final happening at Lord’s in 2025. Hopefully, we will make it there,” Rohit said.

The 36-year-old has not missed a season of the IPL since its inception in 2008. He observed that the league has changed with time with not a single weak side taking part in it.

“IPL has grown so much in the last decade or so and every team is now competitive. I don’t think there is any weak team in the IPL. It is something like EPL first division where any team can beat any team.

“But it was not like that when it started off. Now, there is so much technology involved, people are aware what gaps are to be filled, so they get the right players from the auction etc.,” he said.
