The Melbourne Cricket Ground has hosted a plethora of iconic cricket battles in history. The most recent clash at this stadium saw a host Australian side take on Pakistan in a Test match. It was the second Test of their three-match series that started on December 26 last year. Australia were leading the series 1-0 as the two sides headed into the epic clash. Pakistan won the toss in that game and elected to field first. A 63-run effort from Marnus Labuschagne helped Australia bag a 318-run innings. In the next half, Pat Cummins scalped five wickets to curb the visitors to 264.
During Australia’s second batting innings, Mitchell Marsh smashed 96 runs to help the hosts mount 262 runs. Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi and Mir Hamza both scalped four wickets each to dismiss the Australian squad, keeping them humble. However, Australia were able to return the favour in the final innings as skipper Pat Cummins picked up another five-wicket haul to seal a win by 79 runs.
