India’s first World Cup-winning captain, Kapil Dev has made a strong comparison between the current Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma and the former captain Virat Kohli. The former Indian international has suggested that the former has a more team-based approach which he appreciates a lot.
Speaking at a promotional event, Kapil Dev suggested that Rohit is someone who is well aware of his boundaries and does not get ahead of himself. The former Indian captain also went on to hail the captain as one of the best within those limits.
“He doesn’t play like Virat, Rohit doesn’t jump like Virat. He knows his limitations and within those limits, there isn’t anyone better than him,” he said.
Kapil’s comment comes at a time when the Indian team is set to go up against the defending champions England in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit Sharma has impressively led the side and will be looking to get over the final hurdle to end their long-standing ICC title drought.
Kapil has suggested that Rohit’s leadership is one that is based on the entire team rather than focusing on individuals.

“Many big players come in and they play for themselves, captain for their sake. For that, I feel Rohit has a big tick mark that he keeps the entire team happy,” he said.
While the bowling unit has been firing on all cylinders, it is the batting unit that has been questioned time and again. The move of sending Virat Kohli to open with Rohit Sharma has not worked with the former registering four single-digit scores in the six games he has played this tournament.
Many pundits have suggested that it might be better for Kohli to move back to his original spot at number three while many have suggested that he should continue there. It remains to be seen whether Rohit Sharma will look to make that change.
India comes into the semi-finals as the only unbeaten side along with South Africa. The Proteas have secured their spot in the final by beating Afghanistan by 9 wickets earlier today.
