Rohit Sharma and stump mic is a story that goes a long way. Whenever the Indian skipper is near the stump mic – bit it batting or fielding, fans have been treated to some absolute gems from Mumbaikar and India’s T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 fixture vs Bangladesh at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua on Saturday.
While India completed a facile win over their neighbour to more or less assure a spot in the semi-final riding on Hardik Pandya’s half century, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s lean patch with the bat continued. However, notwithstanding their personal forms, India have looked a gun team throughout the competition.

Pandya and the bowlers stood up for the team helping India to a 50-run win. After India posted 196/5, Bangladesh only managed 146/8 with Kuldeep Yadav picking up 3/19 in his four overs. And it was in conversation with Kuldeep that skipper Rohit Sharma delivered yet another viral and meme-worthy comment picked up by the stump mics.
Kuldeep had just dismissed Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan when the veteran batter tried a cross-batted shot off a loopy delivery from Yadav. Bowling to new batter Mahmudullah, Kuldeep darted one in, short and Sharma was not pleased with the change in plan and asked Yadav to keep faith and let the batters try to go for the cross-batted shots.
“Kya hai, khelne de na yaar. Abhi abhi aaya hai, aada maarne de na, ek out hua hai aada maarne se (What is it, let him play. He has just come in, let him play the cross-batted shot, one got out just now with the cross-batted shot),” Rohit can be heard telling Kuldeep.

In their second super 8 fixture, India put up a strong show with Rohit Sharma making 23 off just 11 and Kohli adding 37 off 28, but the Indian openers could not covert their starts. Suryakumar Yadav had a rare failure, falling for just six off two. But Rishabh Pant’s 24-ball 36 and Shivam Dube’s 24-ball 34 aided Pandya’s 27-ball 50, driving India to 196/5.
In reply, Bangladesh got off to a good start and where in the game till the halfway mark of the chase with Tanzid Hasan adding 29 and Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto making 40 off 32. However, the Yadav stifled Bangladesh batters in the middle overs going at an economy of just 4.75, and picking up three wickets.
Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah added two wickets each, while Hardik Pandya returned 1/32 from his 3.
