KKR Win Third IPL Title: Relieve the Kolkata Knight Riders' All Three IPL Title Wins
Following their dominant 8-wicket win over SRH today, let us relive all of the victorious title wins of the Kolkata franchise

On Sunday, Kolkata Knight Riders claimed their third IPL title, beating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2024 final at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai, by eight wickets, after bundling out SRH for just 113.

There is no mistaking the sheer dominance that the Kolkata franchise established throughout the IPL 2024 season. 9 wins, 3 losses, and 1 no-result says all about the utter consistency KKR displayed throughout the group stage, as the side shone with both the bat and the ball throughout the tournament.

Their stellar form would not falter one bit into the playoffs as they swept away SRH for a destructive 8-wicket win and they would go on to pull off the same once again in the final.

KKR lost the toss, bowled first, and wrapped up SRH in 18.3 overs. In the chase, KKR blew away SRH bowlers, gunning down the target with eight wickets in hand and 9.3 overs remaining.

The one team that struck fear down the spines of everyone else in the IPL with their bombastic batting order have incurred the worst of disgraces today when it mattered the most, as SRH record the lowest-ever total in the history of IPL Finals with their abysmal 113 runs.

There was no period that the KKR bowlers did not dominate, starting off from the first two overs, where Starc and Arora rained hell on the duo of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma to remove them both early.

But, the collapse wouldn’t stop there. Despite Protean Aiden Markram’s desperate attempt to stabilise the SRH innings, wickets kept falling on the other side, thanks to the likes of the KKR pacers such as Starc, Rana, and Russell who kept chipping away at the SRH ranks with ease.

Facing the prospect of not even clearing 100 runs, it was a heroic attempt from skipper Pat Cummins which helped this team limp to their meagre and miserable total of 113 runs as they were bowled out in the 19th over.

KKR, who were chasing a lowly total of 114 runs to clinch their third IPL title, got off to a bit of a frantic start as SRH skipper Pat Cummins scalped ace opener Sunil Narine for just six runs in the second over.

But, there was no reason for panic for KKR, who unleashed Venkatesh Iyer next, and the Indian batter would go on to bring down hell upon the SRH bowling ranks.

There was no time wasted by Venkatesh, who took on Bhuvneshwar Kumar and clobbered the ace pacer for a couple of sixes and a four off the first three balls he faced.

The onslaught would not slow down whatsoever, as he would next pick out T Natarajan in the 6th over, to hammer the TN pacer for a whopping 19 runs in 5 balls, with three boundaries and a six again, as the batter accelerated KKR towards their target with ease and also reached his fifty eventually.

Just one little hitch arose in the form of losing Gurbaz, but the Kolkata side eased in to a smooth win with skipper Shreyas Iyer out and laid claim to their third IPL trophy with an utterly dominant 8-wicket win over SRH.

Let us relive all of the victorious title wins of the Kolkata franchise:

2012 – beat CSK in the final

M.A. Chidambaram Stadium witnessed one of the most thrilling encounters in the Indian Premier League. Kolkata Knight Riders edged past the Chennai Super Kings by five wickets, posting a cliffhanger in the summit clash, to be crowned champions for the first time. Chasing 191 runs for the coveted trophy, Manvinder Bisla and Jacques Kallis stitched a second-wicket partnership of 136 to lay a solid foundation for the middle order. The wicket-keeper batsman produced one of his blistering innings of 89 off 48 deliveries on a night that mattered the most.

2014 – beat KXIP in the final

The final was an excellent match-up between two of the most consistent teams in the IPL. Kings XI Punjab, powered on by Wriddhiman Saha (115 off 55 balls) and Manan Vohra (67 off 52 balls), put 199 on the board. But Manish Pandey’s 50-ball 94 and a Yusuf Pathan cameo (36 off 22 balls) took KKR close to the title. They needed Piyush Chawla to show some grit at the death, though — and he showed it with a six and a four to take his team to a second title in three years.

2024 – beat SRH in the final

In one of the most lopsided IPL finals, KKR brushed aside Pat Cummin’s SRH by nine wickets after bundling the opposition for a mere 113, riding on a complete bowling performance led by Andre Russell, who picked 3/19. At the same time, the league’s most expensive player, Mitchell Starc, provided the initial blow, ending with 2/14. Young upstarts Harshit Rana claimed 2/24, and Vaibhav Arora returned 1/24. Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy added one wicket apiece. With the bat, Venkatesh Iyer ransacked 52 runs to take his team home with 9.3 overs remaining and hand KKR their third IPL title.
