Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) Ramandeep Singh showcased his impressive athleticism on Saturday, pulling off a one-handed stunner to dismiss Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) all-rounder Deepak Hooda early in the game. Asked to bat first, Lucknow went off to a troubled start, losing star opener Quintin de Kock to Vaibhav Arora in the second over. A couple of overs later, Mitchell Starc – the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) – struck with a length ball to send Hooda packing.

It was the 5th over when Starc hit the right length, bowling wide of the off stump. Hooda was lured by the away-going delivery as he went for the drive, opening the bat face. However, the ball travelled to the right of backward point where Ramandeep dived full length and grabbed the ball with both his hands.

Sunil Narine’s miserly spell in the middle overs and Mitchell Starc’s brilliant final over which yielded two wickets for six runs helped Kolkata Knight Riders restrict Lucknow Super Giants to 161 for 7. Narine yet again showed his craft at Eden Gardens when he stifled LSG in the middle overs in his boundary-less show of 1/17 that could prove to be decisive in the end.
The visitors were reduced to 111 for 5 inside 15 overs, LSG got a recovery in the back end with Nicholas Pooran’s counter-attacking innings. He smashed four sixes and two fours. Just when he was closing in on his fifty, Starc (3/28) had the last laugh in the final over.
